Working On It.

Working On It.

Barely a day goes by without employment being high on the news agenda. Hundreds of thousands have left the workforce since the pandemic, abandoning low-paid jobs for a better life, struggling through long-term sickness, retiring, or leaving the country altogether.

In-work poverty has reached record levels and thousands have taken to the streets, withdrawing their labour to go on strike and demand better pay and working conditions in the face of a cost of living crisis where the rich get richer and the poorer get poorer.

Work is how we spend most of our waking days, so it’s in all our interest to make it better. Working On It is a newsletter from the Big Issue for anyone looking to improve the working world.

Your support changes lives. Find out how you can help us help more people by signing up for a subscription

Arriving in your inbox every Wednesday, Working On It will bring you a roundup of the week’s most important stories about employment, pay, workers’ rights, work/life balance, the future of work and recruitment.

We’ll keep you updated on new strike dates and how the disputes are progressing (or not), offer advice on how to improve your lot, and look at how other countries might be making life better for workers.

And, because we know all work no play is never the solution, you’ll get a weekly “working culture” recommendation of a show, film, book or series that’s creating a buzz about how we view work.
